Is Washington Heights Church affiliated with a denomination or association of churches?

Yes.  We are a part of the Conservative Baptist Association.  One of the defining characteristics of Baptist churches is that each church is self-governing, meaning that WHC leadership makes decisions for our church.  There is no outside influence to decided direction, ministry initiatives, budget, pastors, etc. for the church.  These decisions are all made “in house” with the leaders God has given to our church.  We are also completely self-supported financially by the giving of those who attend the church.

Does the church require tithing?

No.  Tithing was never intended to be a requirement for anything.  It was intended to teach us how to be generous with what God has entrusted to us.  We do believe that God wants to lead toward a more and more generous lifestyle as we commit our resources to God and to His efforts to bless a broken and hurting world.  Only the members of a Finance Team see the giving records and that is because they send out the tax information needed to deduct charitable giving.

Do I have to be a member to attend Washington Heights Church?

No.  We are all on a journey in this life and we love it when guests join us to experience what God is all about and enjoy the church family He is building here.  Membership is a next step once someone has decided they want get established with a church and after they have connected with God in personal way through faith.

How do I become a member?

Once a month, we hold a membership class that last just over one hour.  Call the church office to find out about the next class or e-mail: nicole@washingtonheights.org
