Washington Heights Church…have you ever wondered how and where it all began? Well, grab yourself a cup of coffee, a blanket, and curl up next to a warm fire because this is going to be a story you don’t want to miss.
Have you ever rubbed shoulders with people whom you knew would do great things--people who were willing to take risks for God and His Kingdom? Well, in 1955 there was a group of people who believed God was up to something big, and they wanted to be a part of it. They met in various homes on a regular basis, praying for Ogden and its community. Out of those meetings came twenty-two members committed to build the first chapel located next to Bonneville High School in Washington Terrace.
In the early 80’s, God was up to something again and lives were being changed because of it. The current chapel and additional services were no longer large enough for the growth they experienced. So what did they do? They built again and added a Family Life Center to their location.
Eight years later, space was once again an issue. As the church family began to grow and the property reached its potential, the options were: 1) stay where they were and maintain, or 2) take a step of 
faith believing that God wanted to reach more people with His grace. After praying it through, the strong belief of God’s heart for the area led to an overwhelming vote to move to our present location.
Here, their faith was challenged to build an auditorium, gymnasium, and the 100 and 200 wings (which we have currently enjoyed for over twenty years). By 1993, growth continued, and the 300 and 400 wings were built. It didn’t stop there either. In the summer of 1997, through God’s provision, the 500 and 600 wings were added to accommodate office space, adult classrooms and a children’s area. Today, we enjoy 100,000 square feet of meeting space because of the faith of twenty-two people.
The vision of Washington Heights has never been about buildings, but always about people, their lives, hearts and transformation. The building is often the tool in which many people and families experience God’s grace through the relationships that take place on campus. We believe in being a missional church--a church willing to take steps of faith to reach those who are not connected in a church family or to God and a people who are always willing to “Reach New Heights”.
How many lives do you suppose have been touched over the past 50 years? If the faith of twenty-two people and God’s blessing brought about what we are experiencing today, imagine what the faith of 2000 people can do in the next 50 years? Just think, 50 years from now will be 2060. How will they tell the story of our faith?
